thoughts on internet social communication

One of the main reasons that I am now using Facebook and other strange technologies like twitter a little bit more is because it is a really efficient way of staying in better touch with my friends (by friends, I’m referring to the classical definition of the word, real life friends).
Sure, a handful of my friends I will always make it a priority to stay in touch with, no matter what the medium. But with my personal time constraints increasing, I’m hoping that this great technology (that i usually scoff at) will help me stay in touch with a bunch of friends that I care about but for various logistical space-time constraints cannot see or talk to on a daily or weekly basis.
So, I introduce this really creepy sidebar on the right side of this blog. A little too much information. It is currently an experiment. I’m not sure i want all of these scattered various web things all in one place. This aggregates my twitter stuff (which in theory i would use for technical and nerdy purposes, which i have yet to do) and my facebook stuff and random websites like my netflix queue and linkedin. To do all this i’m using a service called friendfeed.
I keep a twitter and facebook client on my phone, so i can quickly change my status and reply/comment on stuff. Most of this communcation is happening on my phone. What an age we live in.

i’ve spent a little bit of time checking on what some of the bands i like are doing (in no particular order).
- U2 – album anticipated early 2009… they were supposed to have an album out this month but postponed it a few months back… www.atu2.com
- Arcade Fire – taking time off. nothing scheduled that i can see. their website is brutal. flash.
- Pete Yorn – In Omaha working on an album with Mike Mogis. Good thing, i thought maybe he had given up music.. www.peteyorn.com
- Wilco – touring (mostly canada, ny)
- Damien Rice – this summer did this thing called 10 Days to Barcelona, where he and some friends took a road trip to Barcelona, writing a new song every day. www.damienrice.com
- Sufjan Stevens – I don’t know. I read that he played on The National’s album, Boxer, an album that I really enjoy.

The Devil Rays made the playoffs and the Yankees didn’t?
That is pretty interesting. And apparently I don’t follow sports very close any more. Most baseball experts realized this a while ago.
Gerry Hunsicker, former astros wonder-GM, works in the devil rays front office. He is a good baseball executive. He used to do all kinds of crazy deals when he was with Houston. Remember the Randy Johnson trade?
